Cookie baking bitch: More info on our Ladies Comic... →
georgethecat: The stereotype about comic books is that they are a man’s world. When the average person thinks of comic book stores, they immediately picture geeky men who look like they came right out of the Big Bang Theory. But women love comics and graphic novels, too! That’s why I, along with the support of…

I just found RL Burnside's Hard Time Killing Floor...
Listen to his rough weather cover of the Skip James tune.  You may have previously heard the song in O Brother, Where Art Thou. Chris Thomas King as Tommy Johnson, plays it when the guys are huddled around the campfire one night, just before they encounter the Klan. One of the best scenes of the film.

foxhack: thewherefores: jillthompson: Here is the cover I did for Archie Comics upcoming “Occupy Riverdale” storyline. I believe it will be out in July. My favorite character has always been Jughead. I’d love to do an original graphic novel with all of these guys! GUYS. JILL THOMPSON + ARCHIE. MY LIFE IS COMPLETE. Is that a hipster Jughead on the cover? o_o YES. YES IT IS.

skalja: latkje: And they have never known the joys of Aunt May’s wheatcakes. Truer words. Someday I am going to write such an epic-length post on the whole “Steve and Tony are Peter’s two daddies” meme and how it erases (a) all of Peter’s individuality and agency as a character (at which point … Hell, Peter is married for much of the early run of New Avengers and BND didn’t...

– James Poulos’s essay “What Are Women For?” explained. (via motherjones) How hilariously old fashioned. I feel like there should be a bard up in here. I am a delicate woman, and by my very presence I do hold back men’s bestial and/or sterile whatever whatever. Shower me with ever so civilized...

sweeter-than answered your question: Question! It’s a habit from my longform blog/ficcing culture to be curious what gets interest. plus you can spot folk w/ rare interests in common. That’s a good point. Maybe I’ll start combing notes for new people to follow. I have to admit that I don’t keep up with Tumblr very well—it takes me ages to check out the blogs of people...

yanbasque answered your question: Question! Nothing I ever post gets more than about a dozen notes (more often zero), so yeah, I track them. It really varies for me. Some posts get no notes, while others get hundreds. It depends entirely on whether a post is reblogged by someone with a wide readership, since I don’t have a particularly large one, and am not very chatty on Tumblr. ;)

skalja answered your question: Question! Yes, though I’m not scientific about it. Esp. w/ FYSW it’s helpful to get a sense of people’s interest level. Good point. It’s important that a FYeah know what people like.

northstarfan answered your question: Question! Only if I get one that racks up an absurd number, then I do get curious. But generally, no. This is me also. If I get curious, I’ll especially seek out reblogs with comments, to see what people are saying.

vengerturtle answered your question: Question! Nope I don’t unless it’s a text post I’m nervous about. Pictures, scans, whatever, I don’t care with them. I rarely get any vehement disagreement on Tumblr and never trolling, tbh. Maybe I’ve self-selected too much. ;) As a consequence, I don’t worry too much about response, even to more controversial opinions.

Question!
Do people keep track of their posts to see how many likes and reblogs they get over time? I sort of release things into the wild and never check up on them, unless I’m prompted by an interesting reply. What about you?

– New York Daily News, “Goats Can Form Accents, Study Finds” (via inothernews) News of animals being intelligent, adaptable, learning creatures is always delightful. The idea of other beings as instinct-driven automatons is so ridiculous and self-serving.

privilege guilt
scattered handful of thoughts about where intent does matter:  If your activism is based on guilt, it’s fundamentally narcissistic: it’s about you, your issues, and how you can either do something to alleviate that guilt, or something to flagellate yourself further. An activism based on alternately absolving and excoriating yourself isn’t especially useful, and carries with it...
